Colourful line-up for Citrawarna

Zalina Mohd Som

Kuala Lumpur, Dataran Merdeka. Date: Saturday. Time: 8pm. Be there or beware, for you might miss the country’s most colourful parades – the highlights of the launch of Citrawarna Malaysia 2006.
The festivities will begin with a Royal parade. Taking part will be the King and Queen who will be accompanied by some 1,000 participants from the DBKL building.

It will pass through Jalan Raja Laut towards Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman before heading for Dataran Merdeka, the main venue for the night.

Right after the official launch by the King will be a parade of 4,000 dancers to showcase colourful dances and costumes of each State and Federal Territory. This is especially to illustrate this year’s theme of “Colours and Flavours of Malaysia”.

From Dataran Merdeka, the 1.5km song-and-dance street parade will wind its way through Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Semarang, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and back to the square.

Besides Dataran Merdeka, parades and cultural performances will be held simultaneously at two other venues – in front of Wisma PKNS at Jalan Raja Laut and in front of Noble Hotel at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Celebrations will continue till late at all three locations. But for those who turn up early to bag good spots, the good news is that festivities are slotted to begin as early as 6pm.

There will be performances at two stages to entertain the crowd until 8pm when the official launching begins.

At Stage 1 (Wisma PKNS), the crowd will be entertained by Sheila Majid, Amy Mastura, Saiful Apek, Sasi the Don and Kelvin Lau.

Adibah Noor, Azizi AF1, Sharifah Zarina, Jaclyn Victor and Nassier Wahab will take Stage 2 located at Laman Seni, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Street buskers will also paint the streets with colourful acts from 6-8.30pm at various locations along Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Among them are Kumpulan Balle Balle, stilt walkers, fire eaters, jugglers, balloon men and clowns.

Also part of the launching event is the Citrawarna Walk-a-Hunt with attractive prizes like holiday packages and hotel food vouchers. If you’re interested in taking part, tune in to Sinar FM at 96.7FM for more details. Only 30 pairs of listeners will be eligible to participate.

Alongside the Colours and Flavours of Malaysia, two other events – Citrarasa

Malaysia 2006 and KL Music Fest 2006 – are being held as part of the Citrawarna Malaysia events.
